The flight from Detroit went well. It was veeeeerrrryyyy long! Because of the plane being French the food was a little different, so I didn't eat too much to be sure I wouldn't get sick.
This picture is right before landing in Paris.
The Paris airport was very different. The furniture was much more modern and they had cool lounge chairs to lay down in. The flight from Paris to Florence was only an hour and a half, and thank goodness because we were packed like sardines.
Arriving into Florence was sort of hectic. Walking by customs was super easy, just waved my passport and kept walking. A staff member of our school met us at the airport, handed out our keys, etc. then put us in taxis and off we went to our apartments. I thought NYC taxis were bad, Florence is unbelievable. The streets are so narrow as it is and cars are jam packed along the sidewalks, then the taxi was swerving in and out of everything and everyone. We didn't hit anything, or anyone for that matter.
Arriving at our apartment was like a dream come true. It is not at all what I had invisioned. We are almost as close to the Arno River as we can be, and about 20 yards to the end of our street is a little open area with a church and shops. Absolutely beautiful.
All of us girls in Interior Design went out to dinner that night, pizza and a glass of wine. The pizza was so fresh and delicious! We walked around a little more, then out of no where came this building.
Santa Maria Novella! We studied about this building in a couple of my classes, and would never have thought that one day I would walk down a street and there it would be. What an amazing experience!
Today we found our school and went and bought some groceries. Everyone so far has been extremely friendly and helpful.
I'll try and post some more pictures later!
We are all so excited for you. Have the time of your life as you will remember this experience the rest of your life. I still think often of my trip to Europe and Russia and that was in 1978! Love, Diana
