Southern Tuscany

Last Saturday, our school had scheduled a trip around Southern Tuscany for all of us in Interior Design. We had a personal mini charter bus take us around, which was pretty comfortable. Our first stop was Giardino dei Tarrochi which has several sculptures by Niki St. Phalle. Niki was an artist who began during the 70s with some contraversal pieces. She was fascinated with the women's body which resulted in her sculpture. For the garden, all of the sculpture was made on site along with the ceramic tiles that cover them. While she was building all of the pieces (15 some) she lived in one of them, which is on the left side of the first picture. It was an interesting place to say the least, but also really fun and neat to walk around. After the garden we had lunch in a small medieval town. The town was adorable, but also strange because it seemed like we were the only ones there. We then moved onto San Gimiginano which is a historic town with it's original towers and walls in certain places. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time here, but we did see an art gallery featuring a Middle Eastern artist. He had a very moving piece on Egypt, which was interesting to see how people react to a situation in a different part of the world compared to how we do in America. After that it was home sweet home!
